Exercise Warren Heath

Exe Warren Heath was an overnight exercise held in Bramshill Plantation with cadets in attendance from Woodley, Earley, Aldermaston and Reading squadrons. All the cadets got to experience camping and cooking outdoors, a first for many.

The weekend was a flurry of activity in order to achieve our mission of recovering the downed airman and his specialist equipment. The 37 cadets in attendance were split into 3 sections, regiment, first aid and ground defence. Those in the first aid section were given training on the Friday night and then got a chance to put their new skills into practice on the Saturday. The regiment section located the downed airman and equipment on the Friday, as well as providing well needed protection for the first aid section from the enemy on Saturday. The ground defence section had the important task of maintaining security at the forward operating base where the exercise was coordinated from with the aid of radios and transport.

The exercise was broken down into two phases; the first on Friday night involved the recce and training, while the second on Saturday involved the recovery of the airman and equipment to the forward operating base across a leadership course. The weekend was a definite success with training being provided on all levels and everyone having a great time, working with new people and learning new skills.
